Luxembourg rock musician Jimmy Martin marks forty years in music with the album “Past To Present”. The newest track on it, “Supernova”, is now out as a single with a video — a duet with singer Maria Kissimov.

Forty years is a long time to keep a rock career going anywhere. In Luxembourg, a country about the size of Riga, it is longer still. Martin has worked with Rick Springfield, Robin Beck, Clif Magness, Martin Turner and Laurie Wisefield. He writes melodic rock and AOR, the kind that came up in the late eighties and never entirely left.

“Past To Present” came out on 3 July through Sonic Revolution. It gathers singles and rarities from four decades alongside new 2026 versions of older songs. “Supernova” is the one track written for this release rather than pulled from the archive. It was released on its own on 25 September.

Martin and Maria Kissimov have recorded together before, on “Flames” and “Miles Away”. “Supernova” follows the same line.

The album ships as a six-panel digipak with a poster. CD buyers get a code for a “Demos & Rarities” download. A vinyl edition is made to order through a dedicated shop.

The long game

A fortieth-anniversary record is not a comeback and it is not a debut. It is the sound of somebody who kept going after the industry stopped paying attention — which describes a good number of the bands on our own scene as well.

Latvia has its own musicians with forty years behind them and no anniversary album to show for it. That is worth noticing while listening to this.
