AkopyanBand, a blues-rock band from Riga, will premiere the video for “Like a Young Boy” on 28 November, according to a message the band sent to LRMA on 23 October. A 14-second teaser has been on the band’s YouTube channel since 9 October; its description says only that the premiere is set for November.

The song itself is not new. LSM, Latvia’s public broadcaster, profiled the band in its Russian-language service on 21 May and presented “Like a Young Boy” as the band’s latest single. It is on Spotify. What is new is the film, which the teaser’s description calls a road story about freedom, memory and movement.

Who they are

The band is named after its singer, Jana Akopjana. LSM described the music as a mix of blues, rock and soul; the band’s own site says it started in 2024 and plays original blues rock with a few covers. Akopjana graduated from the opera department of the Komitas Conservatory in Yerevan. LSM lists Vladislavs Altuhovs on guitar, Andrejs Lazarevs on keyboards and Valerijs Kizilovs on drums. LSM and the band’s own site name different bass players, so we leave that name out.

In the LSM interview the band said “Like a Young Boy” grew out of a guitar passage Altuhovs came up with while studying. It was a man’s song, so he sang the lead rather than Akopjana, and the band tried it out at concerts before recording.

What we do not know

In its message to LRMA the band offers two songs, “Like a Young Boy” and “Demon in Me”, for consideration by LRMA Rock Radio, and asks about an article or an interview. In May LSM reported that an album was being recorded; where it stands now is not known, and no upcoming concerts have been announced in anything we have seen.
