On the 9th of April, the most popular Latvian jazz/funk band “Very Cool People” featuring the soul and jazz singer Kristīne Prauliņa will release a new single and video: “We Should Dance”.

Band “Very Cool People” is an instrumental jazz-funk band originated in Riga, Latvia. With a backbone in jazz and funk, incorporating influences from rock and hip-hop, “Very Cool People” is creating modern and listenable music for a wide audience. While using contemporary tools, the band is trying to bring jazz & funk back to the dance floor and make it more accessible to ordinary, nowadays people. “Very Cool People” is an active-gigging band in which all the members love & enjoy performing live shows more than anything.

The song “We Should Dance” is the first single of the band’s upcoming album – band’s fifth studio album –, to be released in autumn 2018. The new album will feature band’s original tunes and some of the most popular Latvian jazz, soul and funk singers.

This song is a happy adventure in which one can forget all worries, concerns and prejudices and throw oneself in a romantic adventure, which will last for all summer and even more…  These were also the feelings of the group members themselves during the recording and video making for the song – the band did not go to rest between festivals and concerts, but instead they went to the studio to record new tunes, wrote songs and partied like crazy all together. The video was filmed in the summer of 2016 and 2017 in different locations in Latvia by the Kanepes Films team.

The authors & arrangers of the song are the band’s members themselves and the lyrics were written by K. Prauliņa. The song was recorded by Ivars Ozols and Edgars Skrāģis in “Sound Division Studio” and “Meduza Sound” in Latvia, and mixed by Jon Evans at “Brick Hill Studio” in Orlando, Massachusetts, USA. The band had already collaborated with Jon Evans on their previous album “Heya Some Kind Of Fish” (2017). The song was mastered by Alan Silverman at “ARF Mastering” New York, USA, who has worked with Norah Jones, Michael Bublé, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Keith Richards, Kenny Burrell, and other famous artists who have won Grammy Awards. Alan Silverman worked with “Very Cool People” on their album “Funkology” (2015) which he very much enjoyed.
